A devastating earthquake has shut down one of your company’s key suppliers half way around the world. The quake has damaged equipment at your supplier’s plant and undermined transportation, making it difficult for workers to get to the plant and for materials and finished goods to get in andout. While you can make use of secondary suppliers, you won’t be able to getback to full production unless you quickly replace the distressed supplier or invest in helping it get back on its feet.
Answer these questions:
- What factors should you consider in decidingwhether to replace the distressed supplier or helping them rebound?
- Is it useful or possible to model the financialand other risks involved in making this decision? if so, how; if not, why not?
- What can you do in the future to avoid thissituation?
